Mk2 low revs and cutting out

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

Just looking some ideas as to what could be the issue with my mk2 8v.

The engine idles very low, barely ticking over. When stopping and coming down through the gears sometimes it would cut out completely.

Many thanks

No other symptoms, does pull strongly through the revs.

It can be a mare to start in the mornings or when been sitting all day. After it does though it starts on the button. It's always been this way though, the cutting out is a recent addition lol.

Maybe I missed it but you didn't necessarily say it was fuel injected. If it was an 1800 carb it could be set up issues with the dreaded Pierburg carburettor, or the wax stat needing looked at.

could also be a fuelling issue, such as dirt/rust in the tank.
