MK3 vr6 coilovers, where to buy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

The looking at upgrading the coilovers on the vr6, thinking of either ap or ST suspension (no longer weitec  but now called St), both made by KW. Given the current euro rates I thought it would be worth a look, found these which would be  about £100 saving (awesome list them at £629, +£18 carriage)

Anyone else bought over the net and experiences good/bad?

Done a bit of research into ST coilovers before Nikki bought them for her Polo and they are exactly the same as a KW V1. I had V1's in my MK5 before I got air and they were fantastic.

Ordered hers through Euro Car Parts as a friend works there and got us good discount on them.

Only hearing good comments on ST. How they handle and longevity is more important than silly levels of low for me. Can't see me needing adjustable damping tbh, never touched my koni adjustable damping. From reading the specs can't see any difference with kw v1s.

A good thing to establish first would be your budget?

BC's are awesome but higher end price wise. £700ish

Gaz are great but not quite as good as BC and around £550ish

I run Konis in mine and am more than happy with how they perform, even when they are low. I believe they're £700-800 new.

They are all dampening adjustable though.

Budget is about the 500 mark, don't mind spending a bit for quality but can't justify a big one for a car i'll only drive the odd weekend from next year if that makes sense. Gethin, I have to say I loved the handling on koni dampers /eibach pro springs, but would like it lower at the front and coils are probably the best way to go. The reason I'm swaying to ST is I can buy them through ebay.de.for about 525 delivered, they look like effectively kw v1s and have twin tube dampers and progressive springs - I'm keen to try the progressive springs as I hate the coilover rattle when they compress linear springs, maybe that's more to do with damping though (currently prosports ). Will maybe look into GAZ, have come across a few positive reviews, could allow upgrade to adjustable... winter bonus is well spent either way lol.
