Back in a Mk3 Golf!

47 posts in this topic

So from October until now the car has been at the welders waiting to get some work done and finally we are getting somewhere! He said £475....that was full sills replaced, wings welded and smoothed, about 2 inches wide full floor panel and inner strengthening panels and cut out rubber bungs and welded, rear arches rolled and smoothed...ooo and the roof beat out and smoothed as had a few dents....I managed to beat him down to £375 as took him nearly 6 months to do it and I wasn't pleased about it.
Now it's with the painter he's going to get a start doing all the prep work between jobs and with a bit of luck in the coming weeks it will be ready for full respray :) well here's how she sits now .....20160312_181637_zpsj8nng6jn.jpg20160312_181634_zpsef6drk4h.jpg20160312_181646_zpsnkr5041h.jpg20160312_181703_zpsliec0ctm.jpg20160312_181732_zpsdr9tcuxy.jpg20160312_181740_zpsvfy1x3rr.jpg20160312_182517_zpsc3o5bnol.jpg

Still no update on the paint :( but more purchases as always! Originally had wanted to run the keskins but i wanted something a bit less common (well here in N. Ireland) so when stefan was talking about selling his corvette wheels and i just had to buy them, should tie in well with the whole US theme. Just have to get some adapters sorted now and sell the Merc ones that came with it.

Also made a buy for the future incase i plan to do anything with the interior for a retrim, some colour concept seats bolsters are probably the best ive seen to be original and the yellow would be getting changed anyway, or a friend might swap his black CC seats for them wel see what happens lol

No updates :( my painter promises he will do it during the Christmas period but I'm not holding my breath! Only it's in 100 pieces in his place I'd have taken it away already it's been there almost a year!

Been a while from I updated this but finally have progress on the paint! Shell has been primed and painted now just waiting on the bootlid bumpers bonnet and grill and it's time to get it on the road!

Wheels are awesome. Can't believe you've put up with the painter taking so long, I'd have had it outta there long ago. Hopefully the finished article will be worth the wait.

He's not a bad lad and I've been throwing him loads of other stuff to paint (I'm a car dealer) so it's my own fault too lol

Really chuffed with how it turned out definitely worth the wait! Still alot more changes to come. Dual chambers are in and CL taillights so I can get it through MOT. Need to order new clips for the door mouldings too so I can get them on. The plan is to get it MOTd next week then I'm going to get the coilovers and wheels on. The boot lock needs attention and number plate bulbs wired in too. I want to run amber indicators in the front bumper but the Euro ones don't fit in the US bumper so I'm going to try and split the lense and get the orange ones in. Lower bumper ducts don't fit either so OEM grills it is.

Interior had 18 months of dust and crap in it so it got a good scrub and I also changed the pedals.

Looking good Jonny, good to see you've still got the love.  I could do you a lovely set of 'all reds' and a debadged grill if you'd be interested.

Set about getting the MOT sorted this week but needed to sort a few things. Headlights wernt coming on so had to go to a spark to sort it. My tailgate never came with bulb holders so took some from a vento I have for bits and used the ones from it and although they look ok they don't quite fit perfect so il be on the lookout for some from the states. The airbag light was on but it just cleared no issues :) I then needed a few more wheel bolts as I didn't have enough from when I did the 4 stud to 5 stud conversion. Finally the exhaust was split from the cat to the midbox but all good now.

Brought it to MOT yesterday morning and FAILED :( no big issue as it was only a brake hose and the rear hub was lose.

20170630_221543_zpsdpq9bqfc.jpg

Got bored so only armed with 2 jacks and 1 axle stand as I'd left them at my house I got the coilovers in! I didn't even have wd40 at hand but it went relatively smoothly but trying to set the car down using just a jack was deadly when I had all for corners done.

It's starting to take shape now :)

To do list:

Fit red GTI badges and red pin stripe.

Fit red seat belts.

Get MOT retest sorted.

The tailgate button isn't great so need to fit a boot popper switch.

Wire in 3rd brake light in spoiler.

Sort out height after MOT and get wheel alignment done.

Split the front US indicators and swap clear lense for orange.

Get a new exhaust.

Bond side skirts on as they are just screwed on atm.

New fuel tank straps as they look horendous.

Service.

Sort central locking out as it's faulty.

Radio only works through one dash speaker.

Still a good bit of work to be done before I can daily it over the summer but il get there. I recently acquired some anniversary seat material and I plan to retrim the centres of my CC seats in it.
