  1. Mosney 2013

    That is the Garda...
  2. Cheers, idle hands and all that... Gotta say, Jonny looks pretty good in heels!
  3. Before face went back on...
  4. Applied a decal and re-assembled. There's 5 tabs glued onto the inner surface, bridging the front and main body. Anything extra on the outer surface, even tape would interfere with the gauge fitting into a standard mounting hole. Unfortunately the freshly cleaned glass makes it near impossible to get a good photo of the finished article...
  5. Used a Dremel to take off the entire front end about 5 mm down the body both for access to the face and ease of cleaning / painting...
  6. Bit of a random one... Wet afternoon and looking for something to do so started tidying the garage. Found a box of old VDO gauges that've been gathering up for years. Most came free with various consoles that I was principally after so none are in great condition. I'd also picked up a sheet of photo-etched metal Zender decals from an Australian modellers suppliers. Had a flash of inspiration and thought I'd tackle refurbishing one of the old gauges, plus maybe give it a Zender slant while I was at it. Only started taking pics after getting well into the first one, this old bar gauge is just to give you an idea of the 'before' condition. The sheet of decals is so itty-bitty I could only use the two largest at the top.
  7. 1984 Golf 1.3 C

Incredible condition... Really pleased you're keeping it as is. It would be almost a crime to interfere with it now, and you could never get that originality back again,
  8. First thoughts are Helios Blue for no other reason than I've looked at pics of this car so often it doesn't seem right not to, though black would also be a contender.
  9. New toy....

See, I'm right... Big bumpers are better.
  10. New toy....

You need those cataracts seen to... But granted, he could have chosen a better example than the two-tone one Jonny, scroll through the attached link... Is that yours midway down? Linky.
  11. Damn yer eyes Capt'n... That's the turd I did last week!
  12. Doing this all the wrong way round but I'm hoping by going public I'll have to save face by getting the finger out... Pretty common knowledge I've been aiming for some time now for a Zender themed MK1, biggest problem being I've yet no car to put all the bits on! Not to be put off, here's the latest additions... Yes, I know I previously said I was after the later bolt on cap variety, but the more I looked into these the more it became clear the original phase 1 snap on cap version were period to MK1's (and unfortunately a lot scarcer)
