  1. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

Now the more exciting stuff. My new precision turbo arrived a few weeks ago and I just had to get it bolted on ? havnt decided wether to leave the turbo mounted as it is or flip it around so it sits lower, and the hot/cold sides will be opposite.... The engine was sat into place to check for clearances. My god it's a tight fit. Chassis leg needs a good hit with the sledge to make a bit of clearance for the crank pulley. The drivers side is also going to need a slight notch to stop the driveshaft rubbing. So the engine is back out now, Connor has a lifetime of welding to do. While I go and find a decent engine management set up and someone capable of mapping it. it would be rude not to put up one teaser pic of the stance Matt.
  2. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

Time for my monthly update. @loeb @Fatman and a few other friends fitted my air set up for me one Sunday afternoon while I disappeared for a few hours. The front lines are ran inside the chassis legs, I'm not happy with the 20mm hole the leader lines are coming out through, these will be widened out to 25mm and hopefully give the leader line room to move a little when the suspension moves. oh and a little picture to show just how temporary the install is ? Note @loeb professional method of wiring up the management ?. more stuff was added to the engine, clutchmasters clutch was bolted on, Pinion brace was bolted onto the inside of the gear box and the gearbox was then mounted. Ive to do a bit of research into upgraded release forks, but like anything high powered your constantly chasing weak points, upgrading something here, moves the weak point on down the drive line etc.

@monkey yea makes a difference from using leather or tartan, wanted something that could almost be mistaken as a factory extra from a distance. @wilseymk2 you'd be heartbroken if you seen the state the car is in at the min ? @Richie you should know me well enough to know that I already own a grey tweed blazer ?
  4. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

While Connor was at the brake lines I started to assemble the ancillary parts to the engine. New oil pump. Schimmel Performance oil filter housing and high flow billet water pump Cast thermostat housing and stainless crack pipe from grĂ¼ven parts And a migfab short runner with billet aluminium fuel rail Still have to work out how to run the sandwich plate for the external oil cooler, without having a standard oil cooler fitted as well. Fingers crossed next week sees some more progress.
  5. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

Bit more work done this week, finding it hard to get the time to get up to the workshop and get stuff done. Anyways small progress is better than no progress!! Got the rear beam built back up with an eibach arb, powerflex bushes and 15mm rear axes spacers each side. @loeb started making up my rear brake lines, a job I'd have no patience for but he seems to take pleasure in trying to get everything perfectly straight. The lines will be held into place with stainless p-clips. And the calipers will have to be taken off and cleaned down and tidied up along with the hose bracket.
  6. Another Red Octavia

Should this not say "I was 99% sure I was getting a DIESEL Octavia.....
  7. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

ive had my interior over with Del at Optimus Automotive in Scotland getting a full retrim in Harris Tweed, here's a few pictures of the finished job. There one of my favourite things about the car even though it's nowhere near finished ?
  8. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

More progress today, dropped the rear beam out, burnt out the old bushes and got a coat of paint applied to it Also started on fitting the air set up, got the front struts in, looked into starting to run lines, but came to the conclusion that running plastic air line straight into the struts wasn't going to work, going to have to wait to get some leader lines ordered up before I go any further with it. I'm using camber adjustable solid top-mounts, I was worried about these being too harsh but @loeb is running them on his mk3 and tbh it's no more crashy/uncomfortable than any car running coilovers.
  9. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

@jez_monkey McDonald's cup holders would still be stronger than what mk3's are made out of ??
  10. Mk2 GTI 8V-VR6 turbo build

So after a whole handlin over getting the correct bush for my non powersteering rack, and me loosing a bit of interest i got back to working at the car today. Didn't do much mind, got the subframe bolted back together and in place. If everything goes to plan should have a few more interesting updates the next few weeks....

  12. Pistolpete's Mars Red Mk1 GTi Build Thread

@pistolpete have you any close up pics of the finish the epoxy mastic has left on the bay? Is it nice and smooth?

  14. RC cars

Anyone on here in to their remote control cars?? Dug this out of the attic last night and would like to freshen up motors/servos etc in it and get it out for a bit of summer craic. It's a 1/10 scale Tamiya TAO3F belt driven 4wd chassis. As it's been 12+ years since I looked at/had any interest in this, where is good for parts/batteries etc? What brands are good? Or is it much of a muchness with it all? Thanks, Matt
  15. MLVW 2016
