  1. Lost power

So I jumped into Victor this morning to spin down to the mechanic for a proper diagnosis and turbocharger working away without a bother....now I'm not assuming its perfect forever it went for a reason. Research into many vw forums tells me that the turbos on the 2.0 16V BKD model are weak and that intermittent power loss is a consistent issue and is a gravy train to the turbo failing and lovely shrapnel making bits out of the engine. So i'm going to be good, nurse Victor back to my mechanic in Castleisland, VW & Audi specialist who knows us well and knows how far the wallet dosent stretch! But would it be better to fit the 16V BKD with an uprated turbocharger and exhaust manifold? Any recommendations?
  2. Lost power

Thanks guys. 157K miles on the clock, no noise on acceleration, no smoke. I'm pretty sure its a vnt seizure but getting it diagnosed this afternoon. Gerry Doyle in Naas....any references??
  3. You love it or you hate it

I like that but the other half would disown me!! I'll stick to my Golf for now....but would love a camper project
  4. Lost power

Hi all, So got into the golf (Mark V, 2004, 2.0 tdi 16V - otherwise known as GT Tdi) Friday evening and poor Victor has lost all power. No service lights coming on. No smoke, just no go. Immediate feeling was the turbo is gone - a quick phone call to TJ (ye all know him ) and he backed up my theory. Is there any hope thats is a filter or an issue with turbocharge inlet or exhaust air flow?? ie something thats more of a cheaper fix? Gut says its the turbo...but you guys and gals have more DUB experience than me so any advice or things to check would be appreciated Also, wish ASD Naas now closed (I wish Jonny all the best, his garage was the best I've been to) any advice on who to bring Victor? Many thanks GTini, Podge L
  5. So my new golf Victor (christened by my girlfriend) the GT Tdi has no exhaust pipes on show...i'm not impressed. Looking at adding twin pipes in full view, something like these are what i'm thinking: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REAR-VALANCE-VW-GOLF-V-GTI-EDITION-30-with-1-exhaust-hole-for-GTI-exhaust-/221326458549?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item338815beb5 http://srs-tec.de/cars/images/product_images/popup_images/241_0.jpg or R32 style is pretty sick in my opinion: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDU1WDkwMA==/z/TU0AAOSwaNBUf0Ln/$_57.JPG Anyone have an idea of cost involved here?
  6. 2004 Mark V 2.0 Tdi 16V (GT Tdi)

How are we all doing, I finally got myself into a Golf, purchased just over a month ago. UK Import - More commonly known as a GT Tdi, UK Spec is 2.0 Tdi 16V, 140bhp. 153000miles on the clock, pristine inside and only a mild rub on rear passenger side. Serviced by ASD Naas the week I bought her and only a couple things to keep a watch on which is general enough for an 11 year old car. I'm going to keep her standard for the moment, while I gather funds of course Plans: 1. Reinstate foglights - the bumper was changed at some stage I think its a tdi model? need to find fog holder models that suit a H8 bulb - anyone know a good source? micksgarage don't have them, salvage yard?? 2. New Alloys - current shoes are in a bit of state - thinking of going to 18s but I do a lot of mileage so maybe this isn't advised, will this affect full lock? 3. Weekly valet, wash & polish Here is the weapon of a yoke: https://twitter.com/podgelynch/status/591254610158944258 http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn38/podgelynch/Victor%20the%20Golf/Golf_zps7nnvansu.jpg

  8. Hi all, Previous owner of my GT Tdi stuck stickers & tax/insurance/nct disc holders onto windscreen with superglue...looking to remove it....advice?? acetone/white spirits/lemon & vinegar??? scraper or razor to scrape it off? don't want to damage the glass....
  9. GTI Pirelli Edition

    Love the shoes on her.
  10. What have you done to your car today?

Got log book in post yesterday so I've taxed the Golf for 3 months...will tax it for a year then so it lines up with the NCT, that'll tell you a bit about my OCD issues! Have spent most of the day trying to find the correct fog light holders and grilles, afraid to click order on micksgarage.com but 99.9% sure i've the right ones now!
