Hey my friend has corrado 1800 16v and is having trouble. it start s but will not Rev past 3000 rpm and you have to be very gentle with throttle to even get to 3000 he says plugs +leads and rotor arm are all ok I haven't had look yet my thoughts would be the black switch on throttle body or the grey value on the under side of air in take pipe .has any one else had this problem any one any thoughts thanks j

  10. MK2 GTI Restoration

Thanks ger16v & Oldskoolfool ( good luck with mot). Im after something that’ll keep the car on the road for another 10 years or so. The plan would be to keep indoors if got restored. 8k a serious number Oldskoolfool... but appreciate your point. I know the car inside out, but I’m not that handy mechanically or welding etc. Had always read that body work folks like to do their own prep. Suppose what I’m hoping for is some workshop / restorer to come see the motor and we can talk numbers. Thanks for the encouragement. Like us all, I just want to keep old cars on the road.
  11. MK2 GTI Restoration

Hi, as Ger16V says prices can vary a lot and it depends what you want. Have heard 8K for someone to do it for you if there is a lot of rust but it can be done a lot cheaper than that with some sensible farming out work options and doing a bit yourself. Mine is still out and about and up for mot on Monday and is certainly not perfect. I got a guy to spray a replacement tailgate and touch some of the other stuff up myself if it is not too bad. Good luck!
  12. MK2 GTI Restoration

Hello and good to see another mk2 like many mk2 all the good / half decent ones are all stored away for sunny days (i am guilty) 18 years! - i thought i was bad at 8! i do not consider myself that really experienced at restorations but due in the new year to hopefully start a third. as with all cars this age you will not know how much work will be required until you start stripping the car especially the underside as vw underseal is good at hiding rot. A good start is that yours is running! Costs can vary especially with what level you want your car to end at - show car or a good daily driver- im the latter but always try to do as much as you can - are you handy with the spanners? - a good paint job is expensive but worth it as its the first thing you see! There are a lot of good people on here who will give you good advice / help when you need it. Best of luck with it
  13. Hello. I have an ‘89 8v MK2 golf GTI I’d like to restore. Currently various shades of red/pink/white. Few rust spots in usual places, but car runs and was through mot in past 3/4 years after some mechanical restoration. I’ve had the car for 18 years so it’s make my mind up time. Outdoor storage isn’t helping. Has anyone any advice / tips / indicative costing (appreciate this can vary widely) for a decent restoration. I'm in Antrim/ Ballymena area. Thanks. Enjoyed Titanic Dubs, but noted not too many MK2’s around these days.....

I've completed and paid on the entry form a couple of weeks ago and received an email saying I'm accepted to show, however the email is no longer on my phone. Will my car registration be enough to clear gate on morning of show as I didn't receive anything through post.

  23. upgrade photobucket for 3rd party content

Yep, Photobucket have shafted us all and basically ruined Forums like this. I've started using FLICKR, but there's no way I'm re-doing a whole build thread.

just posted my Octavia vRS 230 in the showroom ill be added some styling lowering and chipping with advice from anyone who has done it before would be welcome. Its getting blacked up like dutch Peter at Christmas! black badges decals and grill surround, carbon mirror/splitter/difuser etc. the only decent kit ive found that isnt too lairy is from Rieger.
  26. New to Skoda, have several old VWs

I've just purchased a Meteor Grey Skoda Octavia III vRS 230, with plans to upgrade to a Rieger full body kit, H&R 25mm lowering springs and H&R 15mm spacers, eventually a trip to torquetronics for more horses or Racechip. I was wondering what anyone else local has done with their Octavia III styling wise. I'm very into subtle mods nothing in your face as obviously have to get the wife to get in on the on occasion. At the moment i have 5 in the garage from 1961 karman cabriolet 2.3 on air to the wifes Kia Carens 4 with a racechip fitted to take it to 180bhp. Anyway im going to vRS badge and Monte Carlo black route with grill and badges to match. Also has anyone had any bad experiences with racechip? im not sure whether to go that route again or get a proper tune from the boys in Kells?
