  2. Thanks mate
  3. Hi, Thanks in advance. I am looking for some advice, I have a 2005 MK5 GTI golf and i sent her to my mechanic to have the timing chain changed. The engine is an AXX engine. My problem is when the timing chain cover was removed, there is 3 rings that are on the Cam shaft variator, ( excuse my spelling ), And one of these is broke in half, (It looks like the round piece of a key ring), So I went to my local VW garage and they told me you cant buy the rings separate and you need to buy the whole timing chain case for 780. This includes lots of parts I don't need. Does anyone know were i could get 1 of these rings. Or even a second hand case. Any help would be much appreciated. Ill can sent pics if anyone likes. Just ask. I am new to forum so cant add pics yet. Thanks Vinnie

  5. Not many changes from the last post. Just enjoying putting more miles on the car. I did a deal for a full R32 set up with the guy breaking the car in October. This was good to give me time to put away a few quid more. He messaged me a few hours later to say the car jumped the timing so that took the wind out of my sails. After that I decided to stop looking as I'm currently trying to buy a house then @puzzlement13 messaged me to say she knew of a 2.8 24v engine from a 4motion Golf in Wales. Needless to say I cant resist a good deal (or changing bits on the car) so a few days later Otis was sitting infront of his new set up It'll be a while before I get it fitted but that'll give me time to change the head gasket, chains, crank seal etc and tart the thing up. I always felt my engine and gearbox let the bay down when you looked in closely so gona go mad on this. After Castlewellan on Saturday I stopped for a few pictures with @c11ris in his mk2 and Nelly in his mk5. Connor
  6. Im sure you're glad to be making progress. Be good to have another mk3 around
  7. Looking good Jonny, good to see you've still got the love. I could do you a lovely set of 'all reds' and a debadged grill if you'd be interested.
  8. It's been a long long time coming and now she's home! Really chuffed with how it turned out definitely worth the wait! Still alot more changes to come. Dual chambers are in and CL taillights so I can get it through MOT. Need to order new clips for the door mouldings too so I can get them on. The plan is to get it MOTd next week then I'm going to get the coilovers and wheels on. The boot lock needs attention and number plate bulbs wired in too. I want to run amber indicators in the front bumper but the Euro ones don't fit in the US bumper so I'm going to try and split the lense and get the orange ones in. Lower bumper ducts don't fit either so OEM grills it is. Interior had 18 months of dust and crap in it so it got a good scrub and I also changed the pedals.

  10. Some pics of the front end....grill is only set on and car still needs polished etc but you get the idea it's starting to come together
  11. Who knows we might have a briskoda meet this year, be good to get them side by side for a photo. Did give it a pass with the DA and it came up well, might tell the painter to leave it for now. Kinda worried it will stand out being painted compared to the rest of the paint.
  12. Can't beat a red Octy! Mint dude, looks almost as nice as mine BTW the spoiler may respond to being cut and polished (mine did) although the rest of the paintwork won't.
  13. Some more pics, front end pretty much ready to bolt on
  14. He's not a bad lad and I've been throwing him loads of other stuff to paint (I'm a car dealer) so it's my own fault too lol
  15. That looks sweet; always wanted one of these motors.
  16. I had no intention of buying another car as I was very happy with the black vRS but this local example came up in Rally Red with a genuine 47k and I couldn’t refuse. My third vRS Mk1 in 9 months! It was bought new in Howard Abrahams in Lurgan 15 years ago. I bought it of the second owner, an older gentleman who had 4 years who basically did not drive it. I gave it a light detail today, replaced the centre boot badge and wheel centre caps. I have it booked into have the rear spoiler ( common fading issue) and the front bumper redone due to a few kerb scrapes. Its also booked to go in for a full service including the oil pick up pipe. Future plans are a wheel refurb and tidy things as I go.
  17. Wheels are awesome. Can't believe you've put up with the painter taking so long, I'd have had it outta there long ago. Hopefully the finished article will be worth the wait.
  18. Nice wheels!
  19. Been a while from I updated this but finally have progress on the paint! Shell has been primed and painted now just waiting on the bootlid bumpers bonnet and grill and it's time to get it on the road! Wheels refurbished diamond cut and laquered... Shell and wings painted:
  20. Nice motor and welcome along! Castlewellan always a good little show.
  21. New to the forum I can usually be found over on RMS (known as GazEP3) but may nosey onto here too when I can. Currently own an '08 A3 S Line 170bhp but parting with it this weekend for an '08 Mk5 Golf GTi in gleaming Tornado Red Can't wait! Hoping to make an appearance at Castlewellan this year since I'll have something nice to bring along. Gary
  22. The lowering blocks method is really easy but you need to get longer 'u' bolts. The proper job is to get offset spring saddles from just Caddys fabrication on eBay. I done mine myself before I converted to air but if I was getting anyone to do it I'd recommend alan at Ag automotive. He's in Portstewart.
  23. Hi, can anyone on the forum do or recommend someone who can do a Mk1 caddy axle flip with lowering blocks? Thanks
  24. Unfortunately all forums have got quiet, everybody must be on social media these days. It's coming along nicely Pete.
  25. Happy days you got sorted, just re read it there, d'oh I'd misread first time, I thought it was drivers door that was locked!
  26. Thanks for the help I got it sorted out. The outside handle had Jamed open on the mechanism so it wouldn't work. I had to remove the hinges the and cut the keeper of with a hacksaw blade to get the door open so I could get at the bolts for the door skin to replace the mechanism and keeper
  27. If you disconnect the battery will it allow you to open it manually with the key in lock? Then once door open remove the door panel and disconnect the module so that the button only operates of the key and not the central locking???? Just a thought, not sure if this would work.
  28. Through MOT on Saturday with no problem! Get handed certificate and tester compliments and asks to take pics of car [emoji3] great to see some mk2 appreciation! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
